The Jamaica Orchid Society's Annual Show is a calendar event in Kingston, Jamaica, and is not to be missed.
Themed Adventures in Orchids, this year's show promises to educate and inspire as it has over the years.
Back in 2009 when we started Neita's Nest as a bed and breakfast service for guests visiting Kingston, my friend Vynnette loaned me several orchid plants in bloom as room decor. Whether it was serendipity, good luck or a blessing we could not help but notice that whenever our orchids bloomed, guests came. We made a committment to give them more care.
Our modest collection has grown over the years, and they are not doing too badly for the care! With guidance from professional growers and enthusiasts Ancile Gloudon and Claude Hamilton through membership in the Jamaica Orchid Society, hands on help from Vynnette, as well as tips from my dear grandmother Rose, herself an award-winning horticulturalist in her time, many have returned the love with blooms.
Here is what's blooming in our neck of the woods...
