Why? Because we believe that enjoying our city begins right here at Neita's Nest!
The 2013 Season of Dance by the National Dance Theatre Company of Jamaica runs from July 26 to August 11, and celebrates 51 years of performance excellence & retention of our music/ dance forms. I am so looking forward to attending this year. Besides being one of the iconic and annual cultural events in our country, the individuals, and indeed the entire production team, are fine ambassadors too, having performed overseas to rave reviews for half a century.
The messages and emotions evoked by the powerful choreographies; the varied techniques, whether depicting some current or ancestral dance form; the rhythms - sometimes live, sometimes recorded - over which these well-honed bodies writhe, the strength and flexibility of the dancers; all converge masterfully, making for a world class show.
I am a proud Jamaican when I see their performances, and am delighted too when my guests are happy that they attended. Whether it is the Company's early Easter morning vigil, or their summer or Christmas seasons of dance, the repertoire is so vast that on each night there is something different and refreshing, warranting another visit during the season.
Founding member and now Artistic Director, Barry Moncrieffe has seamlessly carried on a tradition led by the late Rex Nettleford.
Come! Enjoy the city we love to share.
